VANCOUVER MUSIC INDUSTRY FOURTH ANNUAL GALA AND GOLF EVENT TO HONOR BRYAN ADAMS AND JIM VALLANCE
June 16, 2009Vancouver, BC – The Vancouver Music Industry (VMI) is pleased to announce this years’ recipients for the Bruce Allen/Sam Feldman Legend Award, presented to those who have made great contributions to the local music scene for many years. This year the Bruce Allen/ Sam Feldman Legend Award will be presented to Bryan Adams and Jim Vallance, a songwriting duo who have significantly contributed to the local music industry for many years.
This year the VMI will also recognize an individual who has comprehensively contributed to the technical aspect of music. John Vrtacic will receive the award this year in recognition of his work in developing recording studios for over 30 years. During this time he has worked with the top recording studios and producers in Canada and the USA. John was the technical director of the famous Little Mountain Sound Studios. He is also technical director of Armoury Studio and Warehouse Studios in Vancouver, Canada. In addition to acoustical designs, he also designs custom audio equipment for producers and recording engineers.
 The fourth annual VMI Gala will take place on Tuesday July 28,2009 at the Villa Amato ballroom in Vancouver. This event is organized by individuals who are involved in the local music scene and provides funds for several charitable organizations including the Sarah McLachlan Music Outreach. Several local artists will also perform live at this event and the evening will include both a silent and live auction.
On Wednesday July 29, 2009 The VMI will host a golf tournament at the University Golf Club. This tournament is always well attended by many members of the local music industry and proceeds from this day are also distributed to many charities including the Sarah McLachlan Music Outreach.
This two- day event has raised over $70,000for the Sarah McLachlan Music Outreach program since it began in 2006.
“This has become a great event to bring the Vancouver Music community together and to raise some money for a good cause,” said Jeff Dawson, VMI founder. “Honoring Bryan Adams, Jim Vallance and John Vrtacic was something the entire committee felt was important, these individuals have done so much for the local music industry that we wanted a chance to acknowledge their contributions.”

TERRY DAVID MULLIGAN TO HOST THIS YEAR’S VANCOUVER MUSIC INDUSTRY GALA


July 17, 2008- Vancouver, BC – The Vancouver Music Industry (VMI) is very pleased that Vancouver’s own Terry David Mulligan will be hosting the VMI Gala at the Canvas Lounge in Vancouver on Tuesday July 29, 2008. The Gala will feature both a silent and live auction with many outstanding items.

Some of the items up for auction include an Alanis Morissette acoustic guitar , a signed Fender from Rock n’ Roll  Hall of Famer Bruce Springsteen and an ESP guitar signed by all four members of Metallica. The auction will also include other memorabilia including a Phoenix Coyotes jersey signed by Wayne Gretzky and a Matt Hasselbeck autographed Seattle Seahawks helmet.

“We are very excited about this year’s auction,” said VMI founder Jeff Dawson. “The support we have received from the music industry and beyond is overwhelming and we are confident that we will be able to make a significant contribution to several charitable organizations.”

The guitars to be in the auction will be on display at Tom Lee Music in Vancouver at 929 Granville Street.

The VMI Gala is organized by individuals who are involved in the local music scene and provides funds for several charitable organizations including the Sarah McLachlan Foundation. Several local artists will perform live in this intimate setting and Bruce Allen will be there to present Red Robinson with this year’s Bruce Allen / Sam Feldman Legend Award.

On Wednesday July 30, 2008 The VMI will host a golf tournament at the University Golf Club and all participants will have a chance to win a $20,000 hole in one sponsored by Nettwerk Sync.

VANCOUVER MUSIC INDUSTRY ANNOUNCES RED ROBINSON AS RECIPIENT OF THE 2008 LEGENDS AWARD

May 27, 2008- Vancouver, BC – The Vancouver Music Industry (VMI) is pleased to announce that Red Robinson will be the recipient of this year’s Bruce Allen / Sam Feldman Legend Award. This award will be presented to Red during the VMI Gala at The Canvas Lounge in Vancouver on Tuesday July 29, 2008.
 “Red Robinson has been such a great supporter of the Vancouver music scene for many years. It seems right that he should be presented this year’s Legend Award,” said Jeff Dawson, VMI Founder. “This award was created to recognize individuals who have significantly contributed to the local music industry, and Red Robinson has been an integral part of this for many years.”

Red was spinning the hits on Vancouver's CJOR while still in high school in 1954. He was the first DJ to play rock'n'roll music on a regular basis in Canada. In 1957 he was MC for Elvis' appearance and seven years later introduced the Beatles on their visit. As host of CBC-TV's "Let's Go" from 1963-1966, Red introduced some of Canada's best-known rockers, including Randy Bachman, Terry Jacks, The Collectors and many more. He was elected into the Rock'n'Roll Hall of Fame in 1994, the Canadian Broadcast Hall of Fame in 1997, and the Rockabilly Hall of Fame in 2000.

“I am extremely honored to be receiving this award,” said Red Robinson. “I am so proud to be part of this wonderful city and the great music industry we have here.”

This two-day event is organized by individuals who are involved in the local music scene and provides funds for several charitable organizations including the Sarah McLachlan Music Outreach.
 
The Gala will take place on Tuesday July 29, 2008 at the Canvas Lounge in Vancouver. This evening will again feature the Bruce Allen/ Sam Feldman Legend Award presented to an individual who has significantly contributed to the local music industry for many years. Several local artists will perform live in this intimate setting and the evening will include both a silent and live auction.
 
On Wednesday July 30, 2008 The VMI will host a golf tournament at the University Golf Club. This tournament is always well attended by many members of the local music industry and proceeds from this day are also distributed to many charities including the Sarah McLachlan Music Outreach.
 
Last year this two- day event raised over $50,000 for the Sarah McLachlan Music Outreach program. With such auction items this year as a signed Avril Lavigne guitar, an Alanis Morissette acoustic guitar and a signed telecaster from Rock n’ Roll  Hall of Famer Bruce Springsteen; the VMI hopes to surpass last year’s contribution.
 
“This was a great event last year that allowed us to raise money for a good cause,” said Jeff Dawson, VMI founder. “Our team of volunteers are very excited to come together again to support the local music scene and look forward to another successful event in 2008.”

Not a typical choir, but also not quite a band, Aliqua is a unique female vocal group with a style all its own. From world music, to gospel, from jazz to classical, blues pop and chant, Aliqua covers some serious ground, aiming to reinvent the concept of 'choral'. The group has won many international awards and has becoming known for its signature modern, original and edgy style. Aliqua signed with Nettwerk Records last year and their self-titled new album, produced by Ashwin Sood and Dru Masters, is due out in September of 2008.

A month after releasing a new collection of songs into the world, Ryan McMahon is gearing up for a very big 2008. Ryan and his band mates, Mike Rogerson (guitar/producer) and Dustin Young (bass/back up vocals), have road-tested their songs across Western Canada repeatedly over the past two years with growing audiences. With influences like Warren Zevon, Pearl Jam, Led Zeppelin, Ryan Adams, and Bob Dylan, Ryan McMahon’s sound is as varied as his personality. Mixing equal parts of tongue-in-cheek humor with tragedy and heartbreak, the songs that come out are all easily related to by many a music fan.

From the West Coast of Canada, Christina began to compose after purchasing a guitar from a pawnshop. After a collaboration tour through Western Canada, Christina started to attend Vancouver Community College specializing in Jazz Voice with a minor in Jazz Guitar. Recently in her expeditions, Christina has had the oppurtunity to study and perform in India, Indonesia, and China and is inspired through the art of songwriting wherever she travels. -In December 2006 the album entitled Reason, was released. Reason, entwines folk, jazz and rock and consists of compiled works from her years with guitarist, Myles Kump. - Christina will be releasing a second album in late July 2008 with new compositions inspired by her experiences locally and abroad.

August 11, 2008- Vancouver, BC – The Vancouver Music Industry (VMI) is pleased to announce its third annual Gala and Golf Event raised $60,000 for charitable organizations including the Sarah McLachlan Foundation.

The Gala took place on Tuesday July 29, 2008 at the Canvas Lounge in Vancouver. This successful evening featured the Bruce Allen/ Sam Feldman Legend Award presented to Red Robinson. Several local artists performed live in front of over 300 attendees. The live and silent auction was able to raise significant money for the Sarah McLachlan Foundation and other local charities.

On Wednesday July 30, 2008 The VMI hosted a golf tournament at the University Golf Club. This tournament was well attended by many members of the local music industry and proceeds from this day have added to the funds raised.

 

“The Gala and Golf Tournament were well attended and successful,” said Jeff Dawson, VMI founder. “We were able to raise some significant funds for some good causes. I would like to thank our sponsors, donors and guests who attended and helped make this such an unforgettable event.”
